Seminar “Corporate compliance in a new context”

On March 30^th, 2023, Faculty of Graduate Studies (FTU) organized a seminar with the topic of “Corporate compliance in a new context” with the participation of Prof. Wolfgang Wurmnest from University of Hamburg, Germany; Prof. Tang Van Nghia – Dean of Faculty of Graduate Studies as an expert of corporate compliance; Dr. Ha Cong Anh Bao – Vice Dean of Faculty of Law, and Ms. Pham Thi Que Anh – Independent Consultant.

The seminar was obtained the valuable supports from Faculty of Law and Faculty of International Economics.

At the beginning, vis his sharing, Prof. Wolfgang Wurmnest provided valuable insights on the topic of corporate compliance and emerging is

sues in a new context, including the role and practices of corporate compliance in European Union and recommendations for such a developing country as Vietnam. “To meet the requirements related to compliance, companies need to update and apply new procedures, ensure data security, and enhance their response capabilities in the event of an incident”, Prof. Wolfgang Wurmnest said.

Prof. Tang Van Nghia, Dr. Ha Cong Anh Bao and Ms. Pham Thi Que Anh joined discussions, helping participants better understand the challenges and opportunities of corporate compliance application in a new business context of BANI world. Prof. Tang Van Nghia, emphasized that the negative consequences of non-compliance leading to bankruptcy such as Enron, WordCom, and Lehman Brothers and more recently Evergrande, SVB… have raised the issue of corporate compliance with regulatory requirements. That’s why Corporate Compliance is getting more and more popular and becoming an inevitable development trend of businesses. A variety of questions from professors, students and other participants were clarified by the speaker and discussants.
